A LITTLE ABOUT US
Who We Are

Southeast Fire Department is a rural volunteer fire department in Union County, Mississippi that has been in service since 1983 and is the primary department for approximately 3,000 people in 32 square miles. We are located 10 miles northwest of Tupelo, MS and 76 miles southeast of the Memphis International Airport, approximately two miles from Exit 73 of US 78, which is the future I 22. Contained in our area are 24 businesses, 8 churches, approx. 900 homes and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad, which runs through the heart of the district. Also contained in our area is Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi.  This is a 2,700 acre site in which Toyota builds the Corolla. Our mutual aide agreements designate us as primary back-up for four departments covering a total of 68 additional square miles over two counties, Center, East Union, Ingomar and Sherman.  In these back up areas are two county schools with a total of 1,500 students, 1,500 homes, 25 businesses and 14 churches. There are also two incorporated towns that are served by our department, Blue Springs & Sherman.

What We Do

We operate out of two stations with two trucks each, with the stations being at opposite ends of the district.  Out of those stations we provide firefighting services for structural, vehicle, grass/woods, and industrial fires.  We also provide Emergency Medical Responders to assist Baptist Memorial Hospital's ambulance service on medical emergencies.  EMRs are still fairly new in Union County, so the numbers are small but as each new class comes about we add more to the ranks.  We also provide assistance to New Albany Fire Department's Auto Extrication Unit.  We recently began to operate our own set of extrication tools that allows us to assist New Albany's crews.  Some of our members also volunteer with the Union County Search & Rescue unit.  The UCSAR is made up of firefighters, law enforcement, medical personnel, divers, and anyone with a special skill set that aides the effort of the unit.
